*We recommend purchasing birds at least 3 weeks old, as that is when the chicks no longer need heat and most of the danger of "failure to thrive" has passed, therefore, you do not need a brooder. Additionally, chicks can be feather-sexed at 3 weeks old. 
​
*Chicks younger than 3 weeks old are sold as straight-run (cannot tell males and females apart until 3 weeks old) and need more attention in the brooder to ensure their survival. We recommend people purchase chicks younger than 3-weeks only if they are experienced in raising quail--quail chicks are more delicate than chicken chicks.
